The city of Utrecht is crawling with talented people and initiatives in the field of street art, hip hop, and (street) eager to share their passion. That’s why on September 22, 2022, we will kick off with the first edition of Street Culture Utrecht during Utrecht 900!

Connection and Creativity
During Street Culture Utrecht we will celebrate Utrecht street culture and connect the different street culture movements in Utrecht with each other.
Visitors of Street Culture Utrecht 2022 can get familiar with various creative expressions from the street culture, such as skateboarding, BMX, fashion, dance, music, and art. In addition, we offer a platform to young people who move within these subcultures.

Connection and creativity are what it’s all about during Street Culture Utrecht and Utrecht’s street culture is in the spotlight for a day!

Workshops and Showcases
Each discipline presents itself with a workshop or showcase to the city.
For example, from skateboarding, there is going to be a best trick contest on a skateable sculpture specially designed for Utrecht 900, BMX demos but also free skate and BMX lessons for young and old. A graffiti jam featuring some of the biggest graffiti artists in the city, dance battles, live DJ sets played all day long and on stage performances by emerging artists from the scene.

Community Talks, Food & Drinks
There will be a lounge area where visitors are invited to talk in a familiar setting about different topics like: More collaborations, increasing the network and the potential of street culture communities. Additionally, you can enjoy some soul food at our food court and drinks at the bar while you get inspired by all the distinct (clothing) styles and personalities.

Location and Entrance info
Street Culture Utrecht 2022 will take place on the new experimental city square of Utrecht, Beton-T.
The entrance for Street Culture Utrecht 2022 and the workshops are FREE and accessible to everyone.
Visitors who want to participate in the Community Talks need to register to reserve their spot, but if you want to join for dinner we ask for a small contribution for our chefs of € 5,- excluding transaction fees.

Please keep in mind that spots are limited for the skateboarding workshops and BBQ so register on time to reserve your spot or plate!

The official start of the Street Culture Utrecht 2022 event to celebrate the 900th Birthday of Utrecht. We will kick off with the graffiti jam and the first DJ performance of the day.

Graffiti Jam presented by Prime
Prime Sneakers & Consignment has been a household name in Utrecht for more than 10 years. In addition to the coolest sneakers, Prime also provides Utrecht artists with spray cans and paint articles. In the context of Utrecht 900 years, Prime is part of the new event: Street Culture Utrecht. Prime challenges graffiti artists to create works of art during this event that show Utrecht through their eyes.

DJ Performance presented by Utcast
Providing a stage to the next generation in Utrecht, Utcast is committed to that. In just two podcast seasons they have given us an overview of the Utrecht hip-hop scene. This will also be the case during Street Culture Utrecht 2022. The music on stage, varied from live performances to DJs is programmed by them. Utca!

For Utrecht’s 900th birthday, this is our present to the city we love and care for. Skatesesh 900 represents the turning point in the city’s needs and their people. Blending arts and culture is no simple task. Who would have thought that after centuries of cultural integration and conflict, we can now use a skateboard, art, and space to represent inclusivity. Pushing the paradigms of how urban spaces are intended to be used, skateboarding as a spatial practice is a perfect mediator between artistic enterprise and culture. Noble will be hosting Skatesesh 900 with the help of local skater and artist Thomas Klein Horsman, who designed an obstacle that invites all walks of life to appreciate the effect this piece of art has on its locale and its space.

The contest is simple, land a trick and get paid. Regardless if you are sponsored or not.

Legends Of The Roof is a unique collaboration between hip-hop dance crew Class 3E, Bobby Littlejohn, production company KOSMIK and Laswerkplaats | Duda Paiva Company.

It’s a short film in which an artistic and thematic choice has been made to discuss one of the biggest taboos, namely mental health. The greatest focus point is also the superlative of this: depression and suicide. A theme that slumbers like a dark cloud over our society, but about which few people actually speak out.
